Smoke
Outlook: Umpqua North/High Cascades
Complex
Issued for: Monday 28, 2017
Air
Resource Advisor: Jen Croft, Aaron Wilkerson (T)
Fire
Activity: High Cascades is reported at 16,344 acres. Umpqua North
is reported at 14,817. All uncontained fires made short
uphill runs with periods of increased activity and very visible smoke plumes.
Active fire behavior with long range spotting was present on the Blanket and
Broken Lookout fire. Fire activity from Chetco Bar and Eclipse complex
contributed significantly to the regional haze in the Umpqua North and High
Cascades forecast area.
Smoke: ESE winds will
provide relief in the early morning to communities on the East side of the
Cascades. By midafternoon shifting
winds will return to the forecast area out of the WSW moving smoke back over
to the communities of Diamond Lake, Crater and Prospect. This wind shift may
bring some relief to Roseburg, Glide and Medford, however, nighttime settling
will likely bring a return of smoky conditions.
Tourists at Crater Lake
National Park can expect to see and smell smoke. Visitors should check for
road closures and other announcements ahead of time. Visitors can check https://www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisit/conditions.htm for updates.
