Oregon Smoke Information

Here's today's fire update from the Oregon Department of Forestry.  Fire Outlook:  Extreme heat advisories, with triple-digit temperatures and low humidity, have been issued for this week in much of Oregon.  Southwest Oregon will see the highest temperatures, with Medford’s predicted to reach 114 degrees . When this pattern shifts towards the end of the week, thunderstorms are likely to follow. Fire danger levels on many of Oregon's forestlands already range from High to Extreme and this week’s weather conditions will continue to increase large fire potential across the landscape. Current Fire Activity: Overall, ODF is tracking slightly higher than our 10-year average for numbers of fires at 500 fires on ODF-protected land.  In contrast, our acres burned to-date remains at less than 10 percent of our 10-year average. So far this year about 1,300 acres have burned on ODF-protected land compared to a 10-year average of 19,663 for this date. As anticipated, this past week w

Smoke Outlook:  Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest             Issued for: Monday, July 31, 2017  Air Resource Advisor: Duncan Leao ( dleao@fs.fed.us ) Carolyn Kelly ( ckelly@quinault.org ) Smoke Chetco Bar and Blanket Creek Fires - Smoke will remain in the vicinity of both fires again today, drifting to the southwest in the morning and afternoon, but remaining away from communities.  The morning inversion over the fire will break up around 10:00 am.  Air quality in communities around the fires will be good including Cave Junction, Agness, Gold Beach, and Brookings. Ashland and Medford may see moderate levels of smoke in the afternoon into the evening. Smoke will become more visible from Brookings and may drift into Northern California as far south as Gasquet. Smoke Outlook:   Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest            Issued for: Sunday, July 30, 2017   Air Resource Advisor: Duncan Leao (dleao@fs.fed.us)     Synopsis Smoke: Smoke will remain in the vicinity of the Chetco Bar fire today, drifting to the southwest in the morning and then to the south in the afternoon.   The morning inversion over the fire will break up around 10:00 am.   The smoke column will be visible later in the day around Grants Pass, Cave Junction, Gold Beach, and Brookings, however air quality is expected to remain good.   A light haze may be present.     Smoke from adjacent fires such as Blanket Creek fire and the Orleans Complex in Northern California will add to a regional haze in some parts of southern Oregon.   Fire : Chetco Bar fire activity continues to be minimal, growing approximately 230 acres yesterday to 2,410 acres.   Fire activity today and tomorrow is expected to increase as a result of co
