Smoke
Outlook: Umpqua North/High Cascades
Complex
Issued for: Sunday 27, 2017
Air
Resource Advisor: Jen Croft, Aaron Wilkerson (T)
Fire
Activity: High Cascades is reported at 14.464 acres. Umpqua
Northis reported at 14,817. A RED FLAG WARNING has been issued
and we will see the potential for plume dominated fire behavior this
afternoon and evening. Active fire behavior with
potential for long range spotting along with high intensity flare-ups and
group torching will result in visible smoke plumes and heavy smoke along
roadyways in the vicinity of Glide, Toketee, Diamond Lake, Prospect, and
Shady Cove.
Smoke: ESE winds in
the morning will cause periods of light impacts to communities on the West
side of the Cascades, and pockets of light relief to communities on the East
side. WSW winds are expected to return
in the afternoon shifting regional smoke impacts back to the central portion
of the Cascades. Expect settling smoke to pool in all valley communities in
the evening.
Tourists at Crater Lake
National Park can expect to see and smell smoke. Visitors should check for
road closures and other announcements ahead of time. Visitors can check https://www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisit/conditions.htm for updates.
