Smoke
Blanket Creek Fire - Smoke from all area fires is affecting regional haze. Additional
smoke is expected to drift south but will mainly remain local. The morning inversion over the fire will
break up around 10:00 am. Air quality in
communities around the fires may see ‘moderate’ smoke levels at times;
especially Ashland and Medford. Prospect may also have times of greater
impact.
Spruce Lake Fire
- Tourists at Crater Lake National Park will be able to view and smell smoke
in the park. Smoke is expected to remain local.
Fire
Blanket Creek Fire – Very hot, dry, and unstable weather conditions will
increase the potential for significant fire growth today. Fire activity
continues to increase, with approximately 310 of acres growth yesterday, leaving
the fire at roughly 1,241 acres. Fire
activity today and tomorrow is expected to increase as a result of increased
temperatures, drier fuels, and low relative humidity. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the
area around the fire. An Excessive Heat Warning is also in effect through
Friday. These conditions may lead to increased smoke output around the fire
vicinity.
Spruce Lake Fire –
Under the same conditions as the Blanket Creek Fire, the Spruce Lake Fire is
currently at 194 acres. More fire activity is expected this week as a result
of unstable atmospheric conditions.
Other: Combined smoke report for Blanket Creek and Spruce Lake fires
due to regional smoke impacts from both; additional monitors will be
added this week
