Aug. 18 Air Quality Report for Rail Fire -- Weather and Smoke Synopsis

Conditions remain warm and very dry today.  It will be more stable during the day compared to yesterday. Transport winds are expected to be out of the north.  Surface inversion is predicted to lift around 12:00 PM.  Crews today will patrol and mop-up the north and east perimeter of the fire.  Overnight, fire crews continued blacklining the west perimeter. Most of the activity seen yesterday was due to the interior burning in northwest.  Today crews will continue to secure the western perimeter and prepare for options in the southern perimeter. The fire grew approximately 2,093 to a total approximate acreage of 23,776.  Unity conditions in the morning will vary from Very Unhealthy to Hazardous  smoke levels but will become a Good to  Moderate level around 1:00PM.  Baker City, Burns, John Day, Vale and Prairie City  will have Good smoke levels today.  Expect smoke settling into the drainages overnight.
