The satellite image below, taken late this morning, shows smoke originating in northern California and southern Oregon blowing north over the Siskiyous, the Rogue Valley, Cascades, and into Washington. The smoke from the fires in northeastern Oregon are more difficult to discern as they are emitting less smoke, and seem to be mixing with smoke from fires in Idaho and Washington. This pattern is expected to change tomorrow as the low pressure system of the Oregon coast advances. With it, transport winds from the southwest will begin to blow smoke in a more northeasterly direction, shifting more westerly (i.e., blowing towards the east) on Friday. Rain is expected to begin on Saturday morning over the coast, hopefully bringing some relief to the fires and smoke, at least in the western portion of the state.
