Air Quality Report for Southwest
Oregon Issued
for August 13, 2015
Rogue River-Siskiyou and Umpqua National Forests Time: 10:30am
Smoke Synopsis:
Yesterday: Widespread smoke impacts remained in SW Oregon as AQ
remained mostly at Moderate levels. Shady Cove and Tiller areas continue to
be impacted by smoke from the Stouts Creek fire. Crescent Fire was leading
smoke producer for SW Oregon with additional contributions from Collier Butte
and Stouts. Roseburg, and Eugene area also at Moderate.
Today: Smoke dispersion will be better than it was
yesterday as wind speeds increase. Winds are expected to dilute the smoke and
prevent high level AQ impacts although a lot of smoke remains in the area.
However, Red Flag (winds & RH) conditions are forecasted east of the
Cascades. There is a concern for increased fire growth and subsequent
increased smoke production. Areas near and downwind of wildfires may experience
Unhealthy or USG AQ levels. This includes Shady Cove and Prospect. Crescent
Fire in Crater Lake NP is expected to be the major smoke producer with
additional contributions from Collier Butte and Stout. Upper transport winds will continues to
dominant from the NW west of the Cascades with S/SE flow east of the
Cascades. Crater Lake NP is being impacted by Crescent
Fire, part of National Creek Complex. Check NPS webcams for status. http://www.nps.gov/crla/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm
Tomorrow: Meteorology indicates potential for more tranquil winds
and generalized soupy smoke conditions. Surface and upper air wind speeds
will not be as strong and smoke accumulations will not clear out quickly.
