Smoke Forecast for Chetco Bar Fire -- July 29, 2017

Smoke Outlook:   Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest            I ssued for: Saturday, July 29, 2017   Air Resource Advisor: Duncan Leao (dleao@fs.fed.us)     Synopsis Smoke: Smoke will remain in the vicinity of the Chetco Bar fire again today, drifting to the southwest in the morning and   then to the east in the afternoon, but remaining away from communities.   The morning inversion over the fire will break up around 10:00 am.   Air quality in communities around the fire will be good including Cave Junction, Agness, Gold Beach, and Brookings.     Smoke from adjacent fires such as Blanket Creek fire and the Orleans Complex in Northern California will be visible but overall expected to be good with periods of the day in moderate conditions.   Fire : Chetco Bar fire activity continues to be minimal, growing approximately 90 acres yester...

Long-burning fires may bring smoke to communities

A number of fires are burning in Oregon and several will continue burning for months, meaning communities near those fires may see smoke from time to time. All air quality monitors in the state show good air quality heading into the weekend. One air resource officer was called in to further coordinate on smoke issues related to a wildfire in Josephine and Curry Counties, with another being called in for a fire bringing smoke near Crater Lake National Park. Current fires include: ·          The 2,000-acre Chetco Bar fire is burning in steep, forested terrain in the Kaliompsis Wilderness. A portable monitor has been placed in Brookings as the fire is expected to burn into the rain/snow season. Smoke Outlook:  Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest             Issued for: Friday, July 28, 2017  Air Resource Advisor: Paul Schlobohm ( pschlobo@blm.gov ) Smoke: Smoke will remain in the vicinity of the Chetco Bar fire again today, drifting west in the morning and east in the afternoon, but remaining in the high country.  The morning inversion over the fire will break up around 9:00 am.  Air quality in communities around the fire will be good including Cave Junction, Agness, Gold Beach, and Brookings.  Smoke from the Blanket Creek fire will be localized in the morning, then drift east across Crater Lake National Park into the Upper Klamath Basin in the afternoon and evening.  Smoke from the Orleans Complex in Northern California may be visible today from Cave Junction, Medford, or Brookings.
